Throughout history, the biblical figure of Eve has served as art’s ultimate canvas for exploring the shifting status of women [Genesis 2–4]. Visually evolving from a submissive “helper” and the dangerous source of moral ruin in patriarchal philosophy, artists have increasingly reimagined her through an existential and feminist lens. Modern and contemporary depictions reject the traditional image of a secondary, dependent “Other,” instead portraying Eve as a powerful archetype of human consciousness, agency, and free will. By shifting from a vertical hierarchy of male dominance to a horizontal dialogue of mutual equality, art continues to deconstruct the Eden narrative, transforming Eve from a symbol of female subjugation into a pioneer of human freedom and creative independence.
